Muzzle |
Carpathian Shepherd Dog - THE MUZZLE
Muzzle: Powerful, of approximately oval section, slightly truncated cone shaped.
The length of the muzzle is slightly less than or, at the most,
equal to that of the skull.

Female with an oval section muzzle, cone shaped

Male with a powerful muzzle

Length of head = length of muzzle + length of skull
The length of muzzle is measured between its extremes,
meaning the nose and the stop.
The length of skull is measured between the stop and the occipital bone.
The muzzle has approximately an oval section, having a slight conic shape,
narrowing gradually towards the nose.

Prolonged, narrow muzzle
CORRECT
Severe defects: At the level of the muzzle we can notice defects
concerning the length but also the shape.
1 - Too long muzzle – when the length of the muzzle is larger then the length
of the skull (larger then half of the head length)
2- Too short muzzle – when the length of the muzzle is lesser then the length
of the skull (more less then half of the head length)
Example: at molossoid type samples, the muzzle is short, thick and has
a square form and the length of the muzzle being about 1/3 of the head length.

Short, thick muzzle
ELIMINATORY DEFECT: muzzle without a prolonged shape,
it does not get thinner towards the nose, pipe shaped

Muzzle too thick at the nose, pipe shaped
Eliminatory defect
SEVER DEFECT: the muzzle is too thick at the base

Muzzle too thick at the base
Sever defect

Muzzle too thick at the base
Sever defect
Seen from profile, the muzzle must be straight, linear.

Straight, linear muzzle
As severe defects at this level we can notice:
1 - Concave muzzle (nose in the wind)

Concave muzzle
Severe defect
2 - Convex muzzle (Down face)

Convex muzzle
Severe defect
